Globacom Nigeria has a broadband internet service it calls the GLO 3G Plus package. It is a package that allows internet savvy customers to get reliable data services on a 3G broadband.
I guess it is called 3G plus because the speed is a little higher 3G. Actually, at its peak period, it can go as fast as 3.6Mbps.
I had been using a data package from a different ISP and thought I should give Glo a try for this July since my former ISP was giving me such a slow and disappointing internet service. To my amazement, Glo has performed quite better as the speed and reliability is superb. There is hardly any down time and I can browse with Glo's 3G for a whole 24 hours.
The Glo 3G package is a fast and reliable Broadband package by Globacom and I did not know that until I walked into their office today.
To get the Glo 3g experience, here is what you need to do:

1. Visit a Glo office
2. Have at least N9000 (N8500 for USB modem and N500 for a day browsing)
3. Come with proper ID card
4. Apply for the service and let them tell you how to install it on your computer. You can take your laptop there too if you can.
5. After installation, subscribe for your package and start browsing.
6. After 24 hours, you can ask for a different plan if satisfied.

The N8500 is basic cost of the USB device which will give you a much faster browsing experience than if you were just using your phone. There are as couple of plans on the 3G plus internet service:

- Always Max on a monthtly fee of N10,000 for a max download data of 5gb

- Always Min(I am on this plan) on a monthtly fee of N5,000 for a max download data of 1.5gb

- Always Day on a 24hr plan for N500 for a max download data of 5gb

- G300 on a bundled 300hrs pack for N15,000 and for a max download data of 4gb

- G100 on a bundled 100hrs pack for N15,000 and for a max download data of 3gb

- G Work on a time period of 30 days (8a.m - 9pm) pack for N6,000 and for a max download data of 3gb

- G Leisure on a time period of 30 days (8p.m - 9a.m daily and all day during weekends) for N6,000 and for a max download data of 3gb

I think you should be able to choose which of the above plans fit you.

My Dislikes
Well, inasmuch as this Glo internet service is superb and highly reliable, I found out my major dissatisfaction with the service is the data download limit.
I found out that in less than a week, I already have used more than 1GB thanks to Youtube videos which download very fast.

Conlcusion
Well, if you really need a reliable internet service, GLO 3G plus should be first on your table. But I just hope they would be able to remove the download limit for any or all of the plans or just increase it.
Also, if you use it for mainly business or for checking your email, this broadband service can come in handy, in most places that you go but if you are the kind of person that downloads a lot of videos and multimedia or visit heavy websites like Youtube, then you should be ready to pay from your pocket when your subscription elapses.

I have been using Always Max but now I want to switch to Always day. How should I activate it?

Re: GLO 3G Plus Internet service Posted by Felix Okoli on August 12, 2010 at 02:05:36:

Just fire up the glo software and open up self care and load N500 credit on it. With that you should then click the send button next to always day and it will be activated for you for 24 hrs browsing

The problem with this service is that it doesn't last long even if it is efficient. Why don't they all just give us unlimited MB instead of limiting it to 5gb

Re: GLO 3G Plus Internet service Posted by Felix Okoli on August 13, 2010 at 00:40:08:

Well the 24-7 i month plan depends on your quota size. But set up fee for modem is N8500 then you may pay at least N5000 for a month's browsing for a max quota of 1.5GB

It is really much faster and reliable only that it finishes on time

Is Glo 4g plus faster than Fastlink?

Re: GLO 3G Plus Internet service Posted by Kamoru on August 13, 2010 at 00:45:50:

I have been waiting for something like this and I would hope Glo would just crash the price of broadband internet since they now have their own cable

Re: GLO 3G Plus Internet service Posted by Odom Ugo on August 13, 2010 at 00:46:36:

I use torrent and want to know if this service allows the download of movies with torrent

Re: GLO 3G Plus Internet service Posted by Felix Okoli on August 13, 2010 at 00:48:26:

I don' think using torrents to download movies would pay you in the long run. A typical dvd movie would use up to 1GB and that could cost you about N5000 per such download

Re: GLO 3G Plus Internet service Posted by Ernest Chidi on August 13, 2010 at 00:49:20:

Must I use the 3g modem? Is it not possible to use my 3g phone connected to a computer?

Re: GLO 3G Plus Internet service Posted by Felix Okoli on August 13, 2010 at 00:51:45:

Well using your phone for full internet browsing on a computer would definitely shorten your phone life since it heats up and the battery may lose its efficiency as well as reduce the phone's lifespan. It is only good to use your phone for only mobile browsing but using it for full computer browsing? That would not be ideal

felix, i must confess u are doing a good work already. my question is: is there any weekly package..what happens too when u recharge and do not use all ur credit before it expires?.how do u switch to other packages from d day package

Re: GLO 3G Plus Internet service Posted by Felix Okoli on September 07, 2010 at 01:13:30:

@Benedict, the best thin is to ask at a nearby Glo office there but I think that Glo covers Lagos pretty much. Also you can find out for yourself if you have a 3G capable phone, just put in a Glo sim there and see if it there is a 3G indicator showing on the phone.

@Charles, once you subscribe to a pakcage, your credit is alreayd used up, all that remains it the time or download quota, your credit is deducted by the amount of the plan you subscribed to. For instance, if you subscribe to N500 and have only N500 in your sim, then the whole credit goes to the balance and your credit reads zero.
