I've always wondered why there has been a Hausa and a Yoruba channel for Nigerian movies on DSTV but no Igbo channel despite the fact that there are also a lot of Igbo movies been produced in the South East. Many people had also complained about it and some bloggers have equally mentioned it but the excuse given by a Multichoice official in Nigeria was that they had low inventory of Igbo movies compared to those of the other ethnic groups.

For a long while, there has not been any channel fully dedicated to Igbo movies on DSTV - Nigeria's most popular pay tv service. It seems things are now set to change as DSTV is launching AfricaMagic Igbo as from April 2, 2015 by 6 p.m. Nigerian time.

I guess DSTV Nigeria has now added a good number of Igbo movies to their database and so would start showing them on Africa Magic.

A lot of Nigerian movie actors that show up on Africa Magic are known to be from the Igbo tribe but it's a bit surprising as to why there was no channel dedicated to Igbo loving fans for a while. Stars like Pete Edochie, Michael Ezuruonye, Emeka Ike, Jim Iyke, Genevieve Nnaji, Nkem Owoh, Chinwetalu Agu, Kenneth Okonkwo, Chioma Chukwuka, Stephen Anajemba(Uwa Ezeoke), Oge Okoye, Nkiru Sylvanus and others.

With this new channel, it would help promote Igbo culture and help attract more Igbo speaking people to watch DSTV. It will also help Igbo actors and movie producers get paid some royalty for their noble work.

As for profitability, I know that not there are many Igbo people such as my mom who prefer watching Igbo movies than the English ones and they won't mind staying subscribed to DSTV as long as they can always have access to watching Igbo movies on a daily basis.

Igbo kwenu! Just stay tuned to channel 159 on DSTV as from April 2, 2005 by 6 p.m because this is ebe ona kpotu.

This is a cool Easter gift to Igbo subscribers on DSTV and one more reason why you should stay connected.
