GTBank in Nigeria has a cool service that allows her customers to top up or recharge their GSM airtime balance by simply dialing the USSD code *737*AMOUNT#. If you want to load a N1000 airtime credit, just dial *737*1000# and it will be create to your phone and you can load airtime as low as N50 an there are no other hidden charges as far as I know. If the airtime credit doesn't come immediately, wait a bit because it's coming as long you received a feedback that the transaction was in progress.

I've tried it out and it works. It's a good service that is helping a lot of Nigerians go green by stopping the use or paper cards for paperless airtime recharge. This service by GTbank is called the 1-click service and it works really well.

GTBank's 1-click airtime top up service needs no special registration or request from existing customers as it's already available to those customers through their registered mobile phone numbers. There is also a daily loading limit for customers which means they can't load Virtual Topup airtime credit more than the maximum allowed per day using this service.

I've used this airtime topup service on several occasions an it was really a time saver. At times it comes instantly and at times you may have to wait for about 10 minutes before getting it but make sure you don't make multiple requests so that you don't get multiple debits to your account.

How does it save your time? Well, when you consider the fact that the old way of loading airtime credit in Nigeria involves dialing a long set of numbers on your phone from a paper, with GTBank's airtime topup, you don't need to copy any PIN but just use the format *737*AMOUNT# and it will be credited to your balance irrespective of your GSM network.

So, if you normally receive SMS alerts to your phone, chances are that your phone will work well with their 1-click service. If it doesn't, you may visit your bank to ask why or just keep trying the code.

This Virtual airtime Top up service is a good innovation by banks in Nigeria. How has it affected you? As for me, I've stopped buying recharge cards from vendors and helping to contribute to a greener world filled with more trees.
