What is the price of 1MB of data in Nigeria? How much do Nigerian consumers pay to get 1MB of data? How would they feel if they could pay just NGN1 for every 1MB they use? I think it would be of tremendous benefit to them as it would help them save money while they keep on using their data for doing the things they already love doing.
Some Nigerians use their internet data to browse the web, some use it for mobile chatting while some use it for staying informed and some don't even know how to use it. If you are a Nigerian that normally subscribes to a data plan or uses data on a Pay as you use basis, it is still possible to pay as little as 1 Naira for 1 Megabyte of data.
I have to say that people who still use data on a pay as you use basis are actually losing the most money since the average cost of data is 5kobo per KB and for 1MB(i.e. 1000KB), they would have spent N50 and so it would be better if they just subscribe to a data plan.
One of the problems most people have with subscribing to a data plan is that they don't know how much data to subscribe to and so the best thing I'd advise them to do is just use the data for 1 month and use a data monitoring app to monitor how much data they've used for that period in order to know how much data to subscribe to for the next month.
Most Android phones I know already have this ability or app installed on it and they can check this by going to Settings > Data Usage and select the Data usage cycle to reflect the one month just to know how much they've used. If your phone doesn't already have this feature, you should be able to install it.
One thing about most data plan packages in Nigeria is that their prices per MB tend to go lower as the subscriber buys more data than if he just buys small data. So, a person that buys about 1000MB worth of data would actually save money by paying less per MB than someone who only subscribed to just 10MB worth of data.
So, if you know that you were going to use your data plan for up to a month, it's better to just buy enough data once that would be sufficient for that month rather than buying daily or weekly plans.
Is it possible to get 1 megabyte of data for just 1 Naira in Nigeria? I think it is and you just have to check with your network to know which of their plans would do that for you and it would most likely be among the data plans that come with the most data and may cost more. It may cost more but would reduce the unit cost per MB for you.
Recently, I've noticed that many Nigerian GSM companies now offer higher data plans that tend to cost about NGN1 per MB and this includes MTN, Glo, Etisalat and Airtel.
MTN for instance has a plan called SME data share plan in which 10GB of data is sold for just N10,000 only. Glo also has a 10GB data plan they sell for N10,000 too and same thing too for Etisalat which has a 10GB data plan for N10k. Airtel has a 10GB data plan for N15,000. Recently, Etisalat Nigeria also released a 1GB data plan for just N1,000 which is really a mouth watering offer that others are not offering yet.
It would seem that many ISPs in Nigeria are competing against each other in trying to bring down the prices of prepaid data plans and with the way it's going, it seems they are trying to beat it as low as or even lower than N1 per MB or N1000 per GB. I think it's a welcome development that will be to the benefit of their numerous subscribers.
