I've had an Andrakk Halogen oven for a time and I mostly use it to reheat my food but lately, I've been trying to use it also to do things like roast chicken and found out that it does that job pretty well too.
Not many people in Nigeria really know about halogen ovens and I've already done a review about it in the past. Halogen ovens work much better than microwave ovens since they are able to do a lot of things which a microwave oven may not be able to do. A halogen oven can cook, bake, roast and do many other things while also having a self cleaning ability. Halogen ovens can cook or roast food more evenly than traditional microwave ovens such that you don't even need to constantly turn your food over so it doesn't get burnt on one side.
I got the
Andrakk Halogen oven for a while through a
deal on Dealdey, one of the top online shopping websites in Nigeria, but I've not had much time to put it to good use. Anyway, I successfully did an experiment which allowed me to roast/grill chicken that I purchased from a local store.
Roasting chicken with a halogen oven can be tricky but there are 2 possible things that can happen while you try it out - Your chicken could get burnt or it may not be well cooked. After some trial and errors however, you may be able to find the recipe and system that works best for you.
The hardness or thickness of the chicken also matters and would help to determine how much heat and for how long you would have to cook it before it's done.
It's also good to take a look at the instructions your Andrakk halogen oven came with before trying to roast a chicken. The recommended heating and time limits for poultry based on the instruction is a range of 180 C to 220C and for a time range of about 30 to 40 minutes. The lower the temperature you use, the more time it would need to cook. For me, I just used 150C and a time frame of 40 minutes or so.
Instructions
========
1. Wash the chicken with clean water
2. Add the sauces(if any) and marinate
3. Place the chicken on the trays inside the halogen oven
4. Set the temperature at which you want to roast the chicken e.g. 150C or 180C. I use 150C
5. Set the time limit e.g. 30 to 40 minutes. I use 40 minutes since I'm using 150C
6. Go on a break and allow it to do it's work for about 30 minutes.
7. Keep watch on the chicken through the glass and try perceiving with your nose if it's being well cooked. If it's getting burnt. Switch off the Halogen oven if it's being burnt.
8. After the time has elapsed, open the oven and try testing if the chicken is well done with a fork or piercing tool. If it's not well done, cook for another 5 or 10 minutes(using a lower heat of say 125C) and continue till it's done.
Hard chicken may take more time to roast than soft chicken and so it's normally good to know which type of chicken you are roasting before starting the process. It's normally safe however to roast first for 30 minutes at 150C to 180C before knowing whether to proceed further.
I've tried roasting chicken using the Andrakk halogen oven in the past using several time limits and temperatures and it mostly gets burnt. However, since I lowered the temperature to 150C and roasted for 40 to 50 minutes, I've been getting good results.
The time used in roasting a chicken using a halogen oven like that made by Andrakk really varies depending on whether it's a hard or soft chicken part.
Using a halogen oven to roast chicken makes the work easier and the only 2 things(2Ts) you need to get right are the time and the temperature.
Where to buy one? Well, you can
buy an Andrakk halogen oven online in Nigeria

I bought an andrakk halogen oven from GAME, at the Palms Mall in Lakki. It doesn't work. I have tried at least 3 times to grill chicken but it comes out raw after 40 minutes even though the light comes on

What temperature did you set it at? I think it needs about 200 C. If it still doesn't roast at that temperature after 30 or 40 minutes, then it's probably broken. You also didn't say if it was a frozen chicken or not. You need to defrost it first and that would require a longer cooking time if you chose to defrost it using the oven. My roast chicken now comes our great.
