My Okadabooks experience

I recently read books I downloaded from Okadabooks and I'm enjoying it. I had already downloaded the app from Amazon's appstore and it's also available at Google Play store.

What is Okadabooks? Well, it's an Android app that is listed on the Google Play store that allows users to download and read books uploaded to the Okadabooks online store. Okadabooks got it's name from two words which are Okada and books with the former referring to the Nigerian nickname for commercial motorcycles. Okadabooks aims to be true to it's name by providing Nigerians with access to books almost as fast as Okadas can find their way through the Nigerian traffic which can be ugly at times. hey are able to do this by providing books in digital format on your mobile phone and at much lower costs that what you'd get them for in physical copy.

Okadabooks is an ebook platform for Nigerians and many users have already downloaded it. I've downloaded the app in the past but wasn't able to use it well since it didn't allow me to log in through Facebook when I tried. I tried again alter to just register directly and was able to access my account.

To get started, all I needed to do first was download the Android app and then register using my email address while also providing a password. You can then log in afterwards with your username and password.

Once logged in, I was able to navigate through several of the listed books on Okadabooks' store. I noticed that there were comics, novels, educative and entertaining books all listed there. I checked out the best sellers and the popular ones while also checking others in their different genres.

Once I was a registered member, I could purchase books a low as zero Naira to about N100. Many of the comics listed there were free and you could download to read from day 1. I could also buy books or read preview of some best sellers if I wanted from my Okadabooks app.

The reading experience was awesome and really different from what you get when reading text from web pages. The fonts were bigger and well placed. The display looked as if one were reading a real book and I guess it gets better for users who use bigger smart phones.

To start reading my ebook after purchasing it using Okadabooks, all I did was go to my Books > Purchased book section and then clicked to download it. After the download is complete, I clicked again to open and read the book file.

One thing I like about Okadabooks was the fact that you'd also get to know the size of the book you are about to download before you start downloading it. Heavier books tend to cost more since they use more data and hence cost you more than lighter ones. However, lighter ones also tend to have a shorter book length unlike heavier books.

I downloaded some comics and books but the comics were hard to read and I didn't see any tool that allows you to zoom in and so I could only view the pictures. The fonts for the books were ok.

Also, the education section was really cool as there was a lot of resources such as JAMB and WAEC past questions for students. I'm sure many students will love this but only time will tell if they would really be just ok reading from their phones.
