Windows 10 has recently been released by Microsoft and according to a analysts, it's not just an upgrade of recent versions but the beginning of something new. Windows 10 is built to be faster, lighter and accessible not just to computers but also smart phones and tablets.
One new thing I heard about Windows 10 is that it comes with a new browser called edge which is reported to perform better than Internet explorer. Well, I've stopped using internet explorer because it was really slow. I guess I'll try out this new one.
If you have an existing Windows installation, you can simply upgrade to Windows 10 if you have internet connection and sufficient space by going to
Microsoft Windows 10 download page. You should also back up your old data first as is usual with new installations.
One good thing about Windows 10 is that it's free for existing Windows users and can be downloaded and installed as an upgrade to your Windows 7 or 8. The Start menu button has also been re-introduced.
Windows 10 also has a voice controlled virtual assistant named Cortana that works a bit like Siri does on the iPad.
For many people who have been using the Windows OS, they might be a bit curious as to what happened to Windows 9 since the last one we had was Windows 8. Well, the nerdy joke is that Windows 7 8(ate) 9 and so they jumped to Windows 10.
Yes, Windows 10 is free for existing users but who is really qualified?
The following users will get it for free:
- Windows 7 Home and Professional users running Service Pack 1
- Windows 8 Home and Professional users running the Windows 8.1 update
Note: The free version is a Limited Time Offer for up t 1 year after which users will have to pay at least $119 to get it.
Luckily, I'm using a Windows 7 Professional, so I'm rushing to get my upgrade.
