I've noticed that there are many Nigerians who would want to save money in a bank for safekeeping reasons rather than keeping it at home under their pillow, mattress or in a box.

It's normally a good financial decision to save your money in a safe place like a bank rather than keeping it at home but rather keep an ATM card with you to access it anytime even when banks are closed. The problem is that most of them don't have access to proper documents that banks normally require for.

To open a regular bank account in Nigeria, banks normally require for things like a personal id card(National, Driving license or Voter's card), utility bill and so on before the account is opened. Does it mean that those who don't have an id card or have lost theirs can no longer have a bank account? I think not because it's now possible.

Nowadays, thanks to recent changes in Nigeria's banking sector, there are a growing number of bank accounts that people can open in Nigeria without the need for an id card, utility bill or guarantor but before you set out to open one, I just have to tell you guys that it does come with some limitations or rules and I'm going to list them here first.

Features of no ID card bank accounts in Nigeria:
================
- Maximum deposit limit of N20,000 per transaction
- Maximum total deposit of N200,000
- Debit cards only work for local transactions

Benefits of no ID card bank accounts:
================
- Ability to open an account the same day
- Ability to get a debit card same day
- It can be used with Mobile money accounts

Now you may want to know which banks in Nigeria are currently offering this type of service. Well, I think it's mostly all of them but I'm just going to list the ones I've come to know after some investigation.

List of bank accounts one can open in Nigeria without an ID card
===============
- FCMB e-savings account
- Access Bank instant savings account
- Fidelity Bank Easi-Save account
- Union Bank UnionSave Account
- UBA Freedom Basic account
- First Bank instant savings account
- GTBank Instant Savings account

How to do it
=============
Just visit your bank with 2 passport photographs and some money(about N2000) and request to open an instant savings account that doesn't require an ID card or other documentation. If your bank offers that type of account, one would be opened for you after filling an application form.

Final tips
=============
As long as you keep your funds below N200,000, you can always operate the account freely but if the funds go more than the maximum allowed limit, it may be suspended and you may be required to bring more documents to migrate to a regular savings account.

You can open an online account with them for free and upgrade later to a regular savings account if you want. Go to FCMB e-savings account: https://onlineaccount.fcmb.com/?utm_source=WebsiteHome&utm_medium=TopNavBar&utm_campaign=OAOHome
