It's official! Nigerian bloggers can become billionaires or get close to it.
Prior to Linda Ikeji's recent acquisition of a luxurious home n Banana Island worth over $2,500,000, blogging was just seen as profitable by many Nigerian bloggers but not enough to make one hundreds of millions of Naira not to talk of billions but today, it's becoming clearer that one can make billions or at least, 1 billion Naira by blogging in Nigeria.
Compared to most bloggers in Nigeria who had since been relying on pay per click adverts and affiliate programs, Linda Ikeji's own blogging monetization model was based on direct adverts which were bringing her the big bucks running into millions of Naira on a monthly basis from real companies also making the big bucks. Banks, oil companies, fashion stores, shopping websites and others were paying her over $2000 per month just to get a space on her already crowded blog that gets over 500,000 page views per month. She was using a variety of monetizing methods which also included pay per click but reports have it that the big bucks came from direct adverts placed on her blog.
She is considered a full time blogger who spends most of her time indoors which she also has freelance reporters that help her report news content from across Nigeria. Her blog focuses on celebrities, gossip, news both on the local and foreign scene from a female's perspective. A majority of her blog visitors are also mostly females and It seems that they browse the web more than the men. Call that female power.
When many Nigerians bloggers read the report and also saw a confirmation by Linda of her newly acquired residence in the sweetest location in Lagos, eyes were popping out and many were amazed that blogging could make one so rich in Nigeria.
It would serve as a source of inspiration for many existing and upcoming Nigerian bloggers as it will motivate them to work harder and smarter so as to be able to share their own success story sometime in the future.
