I've been using a VPN service for a while now as I've set it up using the Network connections under my Conrtol panel settings and it had been working on my Windows 7 powered computer.
Lately, however, I had been having a problem each time I want to change my IP by connecting to my VPN service - It normally disconnects my internet connection!
The reason why I connect to my VPN server in the first place is to change my IP so that I can scale through IP restricted websites to get what I want and an internet connection is normally required before, during and after I've done that but if I can no longer browse the web with my browser after the VPN has been connected, it no longer makes sense.
Anyway, I tried sending an email to my VPN providers and they didnt' really solve my problem but only requested that I download their app and try again. After downloading, installing their app, I tried without success to get my internet connection stay on and so, had to find a solution myself.
My Solution: I did a bit of Googling and found out I needed to uncheck some buttons under my VPN connecting settings in Windows. I unchecked the "use default gateway on remote network" box under VPN Properties > Networking > Internet Connection Protocol Version 6 and 4. I went to the Advanced settings under the Internet Control Protocol settings > Advanced IP settings.
I tried again to connect to my VPN while my internet connection was on and it remained connected after I had been connected and changed my IP address.
