Building a mobile version of your website or just making your existing site mobile friendly can actually increase your site's incoming traffic as well as enable mobile visitors contribute content to your website. Having a full web version of your site is not just enough with the growth of mobile communication especially in fast developing countries like Nigeria and do more and more web developers have seen the need to mobilize websites since the mobile age has come upon us.
Based on statistics, it is seen that majority of visitors who use the web are actually by means of mobile phones. This is probably because of the ease, portability and relative speed with which smart phones are adding more meaning to the mobile web.
So as a web developer, how do you determine that your mobile website is ready for launch? How do you get to feel how your existing website would look on a micro browser? Well the best way to do this is by using a mobile or wap simulator.
One popular browser with which most mobile phones connect to the internet is the Opera mini and to be able to simulate the appearance of your website, you would need to install it on your phone, laptop or just by using the online version available at www.opera.com/mobile/demo.
I was able to get it from the website and embedded it here. All you need to do is enter the address of your website or mobile website if it exists seperately and see how it will load. There are lots of ways to use in mobilizing your site such as using css, php coding, xhtml or just wml. With the growth in mobile technology, it is becoming more and more beneficial to make your website mobile friendly or you may just be losing traffic in the future.
