Blogging with Google AdsenseI'v made an introduction earlier on how to make money online usig several methods, one of them being Blogging with Google Adsense.
Blogging is all about writing and publishing your writings on the web. A blog is a web-log of your entries on a website. Blogging mostly involves adding content which can be in the form of texts, pictures, videos and other content.
Getting Started So how do you blog with Google Adsense and how does it make you money?
Well, Blogging requires for your t have some creativity and ability to create readable content while also publishing it online. Google Adsense offers you a way to make money from your blog since it is an online form of advertising and revenue for blog publishers. You will be able to make money when users or site visitors click on those Google adverts displayed on your blog and then you get credited from as low as $0.10.
To get started, all you need are:
- A Blog (website + Blogging platform)
- Google Adsense Account (see https://google.com/adsense)
- Content
A Blog
To set up a blog, you would need to have your own domain name, hosting and thirdly, a blogging platform. You could get a blogging software for free such as Wordpress.org which you should install on your web host.
Getting a Domain name A domain name is the unique name of a web address. It is unique in the sense that they can be no two exact domains. An example of a domain name is multidox.org. To get a domain name in Nigeria, you can buy it online from a domain registrar like Godaddy, Netfirms or Bluehost. It costs and annual fee of around $12 and once you have it, all you need to do is point the name servers to a web hosting account. There are also several Nigerian companies that sell domain names and you could pay in naira. It costs around N1500 - N2000 to get one and the most common means of payment is by bank deposits.
Web HostingGetting a good and reliable web hosting is the second thing you need to do after getting a domain name. There are 2 ways you could also chose to get a web hosting account in Nigeria and they are :
- Foreign merchants
- Nigerian merchants
The first would mostly require that you deal with a fully online company and make payments by credit card. Examples of companies that I know work with and accept Nigerian credit cards are Bluehost, Yahoo, Netfirms and Hostgator. You could start with shared hosting since it is most economical for a blog.
The Nigerian web hosts on the other hand accept varied forms of payments but mostly exclude credit cards like Visa or Mastercard. You could make payments with bank deposits, Alertpay, Liberty reserve, Interswitch, Etranzact, fastecash and others. It offers you the option of paying in Naira while at the same time having a close contact to their business office.
Once you have purchased a web hosting account, all you then need to do is point your domain name server to your web hosting account such as ns1.bluehost.com and ns2.bluehost.com if bluehost is your web host. You would be able to that that from your domain account control panel.
Set up Wordpress on your website:
Once your website is live, you should also set up Wordpress or your preferred blogging software on your host and you could do this easily from within your web host or from wordpress.org by following their installatation guidelines. It is not a really hard task to achieve and your blog could be live in about 5 mins.
Google Adsense Account
Now that you've set up Wordpress or other custom blogging software on your blog, you would need to get a Google Adsense account but I wouldn't advise you to apply for it immediately when all you have is a new blog with no content. You would need to add content to your blog ans make around 20 posts or more since Google would not accept you into the program unless you have sufficient content. You could apply after 1 month of consistent blogging and you would most likely be accepted by Google.
After a successful application, you can create ads within your account, copy the codes and then paste them within your blogging template. This would ensure that ads get displayed to visitors and would put you in a position to make money based on clicks or impressions.
Content
This is where the major work lies as most people I know who set up blogs did not really have the fire or creativity to blog consistently. A scanty blog with little or no content can hardly make any money for you One thing I would like to say is this:
Content is King and the more content you have, the more money you are likely to make
So you need to constantly make more blog posts even if it is for every week, month or quarterly. Most professional bloggers blog about 3 - 4 times a week but as a newbie, you should blog more often in order to create your own mark on the web and especially on search engine results. Think of it this way, for very blog post you make, your blog is worth a dollar and now think how much your blog would be worth if you have up to 100,000 blog posts.
ConclusionThat's about it when it comes to blogging with Google Adsense in Nigeria and I hope you make your first $100 in order to earn a cheque from Big G
I would recommend you buy my
e-book on how to make money online in Nigeria

One thing I can say about increasing your adsense income is to use channels and get to know which urls are currently bringin you in money. Then you optimize that site or page for more money. Another way to increase your income from adsense is by having more content. If you have just 10 pages of posts and are making $1 a day from it, maybe it's time to increase it to 100 pages which would probably make your income to be $10 a day. However, you need to make sure that you post useful content and not just boring topics

I have a Google adsense account and write articles on Hubpages. I have not yet reached the $100 mark as it may take a year. I don't make enough money from it and so no motivation to continue. Could it be that I am focusing on the wrong topics? Are they any specific topics that will pay me more per click?
