I had been having problems with my HP Deskjet D2360 printer anytime it runs out of paper of it gets paper jammed. The problem is that even after adding new paper, it just can't restart as it keeps showing me the "Out of paper" status and can't perform any other new tasks.
In the past, the only way I got round this was to unplug the printer from power and remove the usb cable from the computer and then restart both the computer and printer. This seemed an inconvenient process and I was thinking maybe it was just because my computer was slow in changing the printer's status. However I got a better way of doing this today as it happened again.
I initially tried to print some 30 pages of document but i miscalculated and the printer ran out of paper again, I brought new paper but it just would not carry on the new task so I did the following:

- Unplugged the printer USB cable and switched off the power
- I opened up task manager on Desktop and went to processes
- I selected spoolsv.exe since I knew this had to do with printing and I stopped it
- That removed the printer's memory from my computer and it assumed that there was no printer
- I then refreshed the printer dialog status box and it popped off
- I now restarted the printer by plugging it back to power and connecting it back through USB to my Desktop
- The computer should detect a plug and play printer else you can just go to add printer and it will detect automatically
- My documents starts printing from where it stopped

Well that's how I got round it but maybe there's a much better way to do this.
