What do you do when Google ads are no longer showing on your website? Well, I received the dreaded email on the 26th of January from Google adsense policy enforcement and I was hoping to be sent a cheque by the end of that month. My earnings had accumulated to about $3600 after about 3 months since I delayed my payment. It appears that prior to payment, adsense staff may do a review of one's site and see if it still adheres to Google adsense terms and policies.
While I don't really know what exactly caused this as I have had a more than 2 years relationship with Google, I was thinking that it was probably a slight update on my site and the adsense javascipt code which I used the function document.write() to call my unaltered Google code.
Here is actually the email I received from Adsense:

From: Google AdSense Policy Enforcement

Your Google AdSense account has been disabled
Wed Jan 26th, 2011 10:26 AM PST
Hello,

We continually review all publishers according to our program policies (
https://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/answer.py?answer=48182&stc=aspe-3pp-en) and Terms and Conditions (
https://www.google.com/adsense/localized-terms?&stc=aspe-3tc-en). During
a recent review of your account, our specialists found that it was not in
compliance with our policies.

It is important for a site displaying AdSense to offer significant value
to the user by providing unique and relevant content, and not to place ads
on pages with little to no original content. Additionally, Google ads may
not be placed on non-content-based pages.

Your site should also provide a good user experience through clear
navigation and organization. Users should be able to easily click through
your pages and find the information they are seeking.

Please review Google's Webmaster Quality Guidelines (
http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35769#quality) for more information.

As a result, your AdSense account has been disabled.

Additionally, as stated in our Terms and Conditions, publishers who have
breached this agreement may not receive further payment. The earnings on
your account will be returned to the affected advertisers. Please note
that this step was taken in an effort to protect the interests of our
AdWords advertisers, and to maintain the quality of the AdSense program.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,

The Google AdSense Team

From my analysis, it seemed that they or their robots assumed that I was placing Google ads on pages without content and that may have been due to the javascript code I used. I have since corrected that change and was hoping my account would be reinstated. I have also filed an appeal at https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/request.py?contact_type=policy_disabled_appeal but I don't know how long it will take to get an answer and a positive one at that.
I just hope Google reactivates back my account soon because adsense contributes a lot to keep this site running.

Update: I had submitted an appeal and the immediate feedback I got on the page was:

"Your message has been submitted to AdSense Support.
We'll try to address your concern in a timely manner, but please understand that depending on the volume of emails we receive, it may take up to 48 hours or longer for us to reply. In addition, there may be a delay in our response if you've sent your question during the weekend.
"

However, it has been more than a week now but no reply yet. Could it be that they are still reviewing my site or that they have a lot of mails to treat. I'm really praying that everything works for the best.

What would you do if adsense was your only source of income from your website and you just got banned from it? I guess this is what many adsense publishers call the dangers of relying only on Google Adsense. Sites like digital Point Forum have already experienced this and have switched over to their own in-house advertising platform. I'm already thinking about other means of generating revenue from my blog besides adsense but adsense still rocks anyway and I'm hoping for a positive reply from the team.
