It is true that Paypal now operates much better in Kenya than it did some years back. Now Kenyans can in addition to sending payments, also receive payments online in Kenya.
Paypal is helpful to a lot of people on the internet, including those in Kenya, who may be doing some online jobs such as freelancing, selling online or just from friends outside the country. Paypal would allow people to send digital money to you and allows you to do likewise. Now how about being able to receive Paypal payments in Kenya, how do you withdraw? Paypal Kenya only allows us to withdraw to a US bank account. I mean, there is a lot of talk about using Paypal in Kenya, sending and receiving virtual funds which you don't actually touch once it is within the Paypal network. But what about being able to receive or withdraw your money from your own Paypal account?

Why can't I withdraw from Paypal in Kenya?
This is causing a lot of headache for people who are living in Kenya as Paypal allows them to upload money from their bank account to the Paypal account but doesn't allow them to do the reverse, which is to withdraw from Paypal into, for instance, a KCB account. Now how do you beat that. How do you setup a system that allows you to get your Paypal funds in Kenya easily and without until Paypal allows Kenyans to make withdrawals to local banks.

Well I have discovered several ways to do this even if you are living in Kenya.

Here are 2 options you can take in order to get access to your Paypal funds:

Option A: Using An exchange service
- Open an account for free at the ExchangeZone.com(EZ)
- Open an account for free also with Liberty Reserve
- Buy liberty reserve funds(by bidding on EZ) with the amount of Paypal funds you want to withdraw
- Complete the paypal transfer process
- EZ will credit your Liberty reserve account if you win the bid was or as soon as the seller approves it
- Withdraw from Liberty reserve using an exchanger in Kenya, bank wire, transfer to Alertpay, Western Union and so on being offered on EZ.

What you will need for option A:
- A Paypal account
- A Liberty Reserve account

Option B: By Opening a US Bank account
Since PayPal accounts in Kenya can only be withdrawn to a US bank account, a Paypal user in Kenya may also follow this option although it is more expensive and time consuming when compared to Option A.
To Open a US bank account, here is that you will need to do:
- You may need to open an account physically in the US for instance at Bank of America as a non US resident
- Fill forms at the bank and then you may present your form of identification and pay an opening balance
- You will provide an address in the US where you are staying and at which you will be able to receive an ATM card that will be sent to you in about 2 weeks
- Also get a number to call in order to activate the ATM card
- When you get back to Kenya, you may then call and activate the card
- You may now use the ATM card to withdraw from your US bank account after making withdrawals from Paypal to the account

Tip: Using Option A is quite easy as you don't need to open a US bank account with alll the charges. You can even transfer from Paypal to Alertpay after transferring from Paypal to Liberty reserve first and use AlertPay as you would like in Kenya like in sending yourself a cheque or bank wire.
