While I think that charity organizations are in a much better position to make money using donation buttons on their websites, you can't beat the fact that more website owners are also making use of Paypal buttons to accept donations on their sites.

What is a donation button?

A Donation button is one that allows users to donate money to the receiver without expecting anything in return and it is mostly for a cause they support

The usefulness of donation buttons
When we talk of charity and some other non-profit organizations that are making money using online donation buttons, we've got sites like Yele.org, Wikipedia.com and so on. Yele happened in the aftermath of the Haiti Hurricane. There are also stories of people doing cyberbegging and getting donations from people via Paypal. Well all these are legitimate ways of raising funds and even politicians have started using online donations, especially via Paypal, as a way to raise funds for their activities.

So how do you go about creating a donation button for your site?
Before I go further, I just want you to know that there are several payment platforms like Alerypay.com with which one could use to receive payments or donations online and a site that does that well is that of Evans Wadongo of sustainabledevelopmentforall.org. Anyway, we are focused on setting up a Paypal donation button for your website so how do you do this?

Steps to setting up a Paypal donation button
I would just go straight to the steps here:
- Go to paypal.com and log into your account
- Go to merchant services
- Under create buttons, click on donate
- Enter the organization name or service that people are meant to donate towards
- Select whether to allow contributors to enter their own amount or a fixed amount
- Now click on create button
- Copy the code and paste it on your website

Now you are able to receive donations on your website. Make sure that it is for a good purpose. If you are a blogger, you could include the code in your template to show after every post or on just a particular spot for users to donate out of generosity to support your work on the blog. You can just remove the default paypal image and include some other image like buy me coffee of buy me a beer logo that will encourage people to donate towards your site.
