Blogging for a livingThere are a lot of blogs where the owners just blog for fun or as a hobby but quite very few blogs where the bloggers actually blog for a living.
What does it mean to go professional with a blog? What will it take for a hobby blogger to start blogging for a living?
Should I go Professional? Going professional with your blog will depend on a lot of things such as if you enjoy doing it, if you make money with it, how much traffic it brings in, who your blog readers are, how long you've been blogging and your chances of continuing to blog for the long term.
What I have seen as a major reason why a blogger would want to go professional is when the income from a blog becomes more than sufficient to live on and at times supercedes his current income from their previous job. Although for the few top paid bloggers, their blog income now more than quadruples their previous job income. This is because blogging is a growing profession and people are just finding out that it could pay them more to blog than keep a 9 - 5 job everyday.
The truth however is that Blogging is fun and blogging pays well too!
How to be a professional bloggerIf you would want to become a professional blogger, then you would need to know that this could take a lot from you from the start but after you have put in much work to your site, it becomes easier for you to manage in the future since you will by then be reaping more benefits from your published works
So how do you go professional? Well you have to decide on a lot of things such as:
- Start a blog if you've not yet started already
- Focus on a niche that you are good at and make lots of blog posts
- Keep working on your blog by adding more content
- Monetize your blog using online advertising and other tools
- Find out if your blog income is stable and exceeds your current income from your job
- Keep expanding into other profitable niches to increase your current blog income
- If your blog income is stable for about a year or two, go full time blogging and quit your job
- This would allow you more time to grow your blog and keep making more money online in the long term
- Secure your blog income by securing access to things like your domain name, hosting, blog content and advertising accounts with Google, Amazon and others especially by keeping to terms of service and policies.
- Secure also the keywords driving traffic to your blog as it is an essential part of your blog income
- Do your best to avoid lawsuits and pay your taxes from your blog income
So now you are a professional blogger!
