The first keyword I would reveal here is "MTN". Yes, there is a lot of web queries about MTN on the internet and a lot of these are coming from Nigerians.
Earlier in
my first post on this topic, I did a sort of introduction which I intended to turn into a series with a focus on rising queries and keywords coming from Nigeria's cyberspace. There are quite a lot of things Nigerians search or seek for when on the web and it mostly has to do with what will ultimately satisfy their immediate needs. One of this keywords which keeps rising is MTN.
As most Nigerians readers already know, MTN is among the top three Telecommunication networks in the country as they have the most customers as well as the best services. MTN Nigeria is the company which promotes the MTN brand in Nigeria and it started as a Mobile telecoms network in South Africa but has practically become one of the most active and preferred network in West Africa. About ten years ago, Telecommunication in Nigeria was nothing to write about as it was inefficient but with the privatisation of this sector and the issuance of licenses to a few companies, Nigeria has risen to become Africa's giant with the highest number of mobile phone users in Africa with 68 million telephone lines. MTN holds a big chunk of that percentage and still growing.
A lot of queries are made on Google, Yahoo and Bing about MTN including recent product releases and promos such that keeping up with the telecoms giant, via blogging, can itself become a full time job. Bloggers and web content owners can attract more traffic to their website just by saying one of two things about MTN such as recent promos, free gits, services like Blackberry, mobile browsing plans and so on. You could actually make money online in Nigeria blogging about MTN if you are a blogger.
There are quite a lot of things people from Nigeria search for when on the internet but if you are able to capture a niche such as this one, you could very well be making a killing with your site via online advertising.
