MTN Nigeria offers a useful service that allows you to backup your contacts on an online database. In order to be able to use store your contacts with MTN, you need to first register at their online portal

What you will need for setting MTN Backup
- An MTN sim card and a mobile phone
- Internet access
- Airtime credit on your phone (about N100 will do)

Here is an easy way to use the MTN Back up service
1. Just go to the MTN portal at https://mtnonline.weballynis.gemalto.com/gemaltobackup/default/login.vhtml
2. Create an account with your phone number as username and select a password. You may also use any other username but if you are going to use your phone number, just use the 2348+++ format
3. Login to your account and click on my devices
4. Select your phone if you have not done so already
5. Follow the process and the settings will be sent to your phone else you have to manually configure it if your phone does not accept OTA settings

Doing the Back up from your phone
Once you have configured the settings in your phone, the next step is to do the sync from your phone:
1.Go to your phone Menu and choose Tools (or Connectivity).
2.Choose Sync.
3.Select the Synchronization profile then Options and click on Synchronise to start synchronisation.
4. If the contacts were successfully copied, you will be charged and a confirmation will be sent by sms.

It takes only about a minute to do MTN backup and you can initiate it with an MTN Backup sim or from their website. It cost about N100 for a first session and N50 for subsequent sessions.
