Although I won't say this is my review of MTN's Hynet service(Still going to write that), I just want to blog a bit on how I finally got it to work on my desktop. I have no problem using it on the laptop since it comes with a wireless connection and also a working ethernet port for the cable. On my desktop however, the ethernet port doesn't seem to be working and there is no wifi but the usb ports are working.
After trying in vain to get a wireless(wifi) usb port at the local computer market, I settled for a USB-LAN device that sort of connects your usb port to an ethernet port. The USB/LAN device I got had two ports - one for plugging in to your usb port and the other for plugging into the ethernet cable that comes with MTN's Hynet package.
So that's how it worked. Since my desktop had a working usb port but not a working ethernet port:
MTN HYNET LAN cable --> USB/LAN device --> USB port
So actually there are three ways to connect a desktop to your MTN Hynet or other Wireless/LAN broadband internet service:
- LAN cable using the ethernet port
- Wifi usb adapter/dongle
- USB/LAN adapter/dongle
