If you like shopping for American products, you don't always have to get a visa, make a hotel booking or travel all the time just to get your items shipped to you from the USA and this is especially even more useful, if the items are not that heavy and can be sent by courier services. However, it doesn't really what you are shipping to Nigeria, with your USA address, you can ship almost anything to Nigeria as long as you can buy them online from American internet stores.
Things to consider when shopping for American products from Nigeria- How will it be shipped?
- Do you need a US address
- Shipping restrictions. You should check with the
Nigerian Custom Service Prohibition list
Getting a USA address
You can get a USA mail forwarding address from Nigeria and all you really need to do this is a credit card and an internet connection. Once you have that, you can apply for an account depending on how often you shop from those stores. A mail forwarding address works in this way: It receives goods on your behalf and re-ships them to you. Now there are a lot of american online stores that offer free shipping within the USA and you can take advantage of this to reduce your costs. However you would have to pay for the final shipping to Nigeria using your credit card. Once the agent has received your good,s they would then re-ship it to you in Nigeria at your set time
Selecting a membership plan
A site like MyUS offers mail forwarding service for members depending on which plan you have subscribed. If you are a regular shipper, then you should go for the yearly plan which costs about $70 and then only pay variable fees based n the volume and weight of what you are forwarding to Nigeria. If you are just shipping on a once in a while basis, you can go for the basic plan which comes at a flat fee of about $10 and this doesn't also include the shipping costs which are variable.
So you see, to really have a US address from Nigeria, all you really need are:
- A credit card
- Internet access
- Your address in Nigeria
With all the above, you should just go to any US mail forwarding website and apply for an account. I however, recommend having one with
MyUS
