I have been looking for a replacement laptop for my Toshiba Satellite laptop but I didn't want an expensive one. I could do with a refurbished or fairly used one which didn't have to be over $200 so I just searched for toshiba laptops within that price range on Amazon.com.
Search for your LaptopI searched for Toshiba laptops on Amazon
The closest I found to my A105 S4004 was the Toshiba Satellite M115-S3094 14.1-inch. Since I had a couple of batteries from my a105 which were also be useful for the M115, I thought it should be a good investment buying laptops from the same family (such as the satellite series) and with a valid Windows installation. So I was lucky to run into this cheap offer at $199 for the Toshiba Satellite M115-S3094 which was a 14 inch computer and a bit smaller than my previous 17 inch one.
Make use of Amazon's wish listWhat I normally do when I browse through Amazon's products is look for products that I probably need(or would need in the future) and add them to my wish list until perhaps credit card has enough funds and I want to purchase them.
Amazon's wish list allows for easy shopping since all you need do is go to the Amazon.com website and click on the wish list link in order to get a view of items you have saved in your list.
So once you see somthing you like, you should just add it to your wish list, don't be in a hurry to buy. Do a bit of research, watc a Youtube video and try to know if it really has all you want
Returned to my Amazon wish list and placed order
So when I'm finally ready to buy, I returned to my Amazon wish list and added the laptop to cart. I finally placed the order. Since I have already added my Zenith bank visa card and US shipping address to my Amazon account, my order went smoothly and almost immediately, I get an sms from Zen Bank about my online order and the amount. It noted "Purchase from Amazon". That's one of the reasons I love using the Zenith vis card as they normally give a notification when you make an online order with your card.
Shipped the laptop to MyUS addressSince I already had a 1 year MyUS account, I just ordered it from Amazon using my Nigerian bank issued credit card and it was shipped to my suite no and address in the USA. Those guys would then hold the item on my behalf until I am ready to finally ship my selected products to my Nigerian address
I pay for shipping to NigeriaI decided to ship the laptop to Nigeria and it was weighing around 7 pounds and this cost about $103.65 to ship to Nigeria. You can use the MyUS shipping rate calculator to estimate how much an item would cost for shipping. But the minimum rate is around $50 for 1 pound. The laptop cost me about $90 to ship to Nigeria.
Laptop arrives Nigeria within 7 to 10 daysSo it takes about sevento ten days to finally get an item shipped to Nigeria. In some cases, it takes only 5 business days. You can track the shipping using dhl website in order to know the specifica time when an item will reach you. In my case I was tracking it and once it reached lagos, I should expect to get it the next business day and that is when the status says "With courier". Update: I am yet to get it as status says delayed. Read about it here:
dhl shipment delayed. After paying them a visit and giving some explanations, I got it the next business day.
Costs:So the basic costs for getting a laptop from USA to Nigeria are:
- Purchase price: In my case $199
- Shipping to US forwarding addres: In my case I got free shipping so $0. It could go for $10 t0 $20
- Final shipping to Nigeria: This specifically cost me $103.65 as shipping cost about $50 to $100 for dhl to Nigeria and depends on the weight.
Things you will need to buy laptops from USA and ship to Nigeria- A credit card with funds
- A US forwarding address
- A final shipping destination in Nigeria
- An internet connection
- An online shopping account eg. Amazon's
