If you are a Nigerian resident and still looking for possibilities of opening and getting paid by Paypal, my honest advice to you is just forget it. Although it is really possible to get around the rules in order to still get a Paypal account albeit with an Asian address, it just isn't really worth it unless you are also prepared to cash your cheque in such countries.

I just visited the Paypal website today just to confirm whether Nigerian residents are allowed and this is what I got:

>- NOTHING ABOUT NIGERIA ->

The closest country I got that was acceptable to Paypal was Niger - a close neighbouring country bordering Nigeria by the north - A French speaking country.

It is obvious, Paypal doesn't want to come to Nigeria just yet either because:
- Nigeria is too big to manage
- They can't handle the high fraud issues
- Paypal is simply not big enough for Nigeria yet.

Most South African countries are finding the Nigerian market profitable
Although, there are already a lot of notable South African countries already raking in billions of profit yearly from Nigeria's economy such as MTN, DSTV and others, Paypal has not committed to entering the Nigerian market yet and there are no signs it will ever do so in the near future.

So if you are in Nigeria and looking for an online payment service, just forget about Paypal and you will only find out that there are better opportunities to receive money online besides Paypal.

Other ways to receive money online in Nigeria includes

- Wire transfers
- Alertpay
- Moneybookers
- Plimus
- Liberty reserve

Receiving affiliate payments
Some people complain that most affiliate merchants that they use prefer making payments only through paypal but this is because they probably have not found out other options. There are a lot of affiliate merchants that can pay you your earnings without having to use Paypal and these includes:

- Amazon - pays by cheque or gift cards
- Bluehost and Netfirms - Pays by cheque or wire transfer
- Freelancing jobs - cheque or wire transfer
- Forex affiliate programs - Pay by liberty reserve or wire transfer
- Google adsense - Pays by cheque. Very popular among Nigerian publishers

If you see and affiliate merchant that offers payment only through paypal, then they probably ain't big enough and so you should just move on to a better provider.
