This is actually the first time I have experienced this delay in shipping a laptop from the USA to Nigeria via DHL. Maybe because it was a laptop and they perhaps suspected that I did not validly obtain it or something. Maybe they thought I was a Yahoo guy or something but it is really worrying and not encouraging me to keep shipping laptops with DHL.
I made a contract with DHL through myUS forwarding account to ship my Laptop for me from the USA to Nigeria and this was supposed to have reached me within 5 days but guess what I got after 7 days of tracking my shipment on the internet and SMS? A letter from DHL Nigeria office in Apapa requesting for my presence at their MM cargo terminal office for some clarification with them. They said that the shipment has been stopped by the NDLEA and I had to come there first.
So my shipment was delayed by DHL Nigeria for more than 8 days and I didn't really have the time to pay them a visit. I later did before the expiration of their 28 day deadline after which the goods would finally given up custody of my shipment.
I went to the DHL office at the airport cargo wing and the receptionts I met there forwarded me to a meeting with 3 men who did not identify themselves. No name tag, no formal introduction but they just kept asking me questions. How I got the laptop, what price, what I do for a living and then we just started having a friendly chat like on issues related to doing business in Nigeria. Anyway, I guess they just wanted to be sure that I wasn't a 419 guy trying to use their services fraudulently. Up till now, I still don't know who I met, whether it was NDLEA guys or DHL office reps.
One important thing I also did before going for the meeting was printing a copy of my purchase receipt and bringing along my national id card which they requested. They asked for a reciept of my purchase and I showed them and this really helped them process my shipment quickly. I left there within 30 mins and I soon received an sms notification from DHL that my shipment has cleared.
Guess I will be expecting delivery of the laptop by Monday. If you are going to ship a bulk of laptops to Nigeria for business via DHL, make sure you have proper copies of your documents and be able to prove that you are doing a legitimate business.

Well just have copies of your invoice from Amazon store as well as your invoice from Myus. You can also go with your personal form of id like driver's license or national id. Do copies of them just in case.
