This is according to the Alexa ranking for the most visited websites in Nigeria. It may not necessarily be based on unique views but for websites that just get the most traffic as at this date.
My analysis only includes the top ten most visited websites at at 2012 for only Nigerian indigenous sites and not top sites like Facebook or Yahoo.
So, here they are:
1. Vanguard News - vanguardngr.com
2. Nairaland - www.nairaland.com
3. GTBank - www.gtbank.com
4. Vconnect - www.vconnect.com
5. The Punch www.punchng.com
6. Jobberman - www.jobberman.com
7. Naijapals - naijapals.com
8. The Nation newspaper www.thenationonline.net
9. Sahara Reporters saharareporters.com
10. Linda Ikeji lindaikeji.blogspot.com
As usual, newspaper and news sites are in the lead then followed by Nairaland an online forum. It seems Vanguard website traffic increased as a result of their site redesign which is also mobile friendly. Nairaland has also had some chances. Then there are also new sites with high traffic such as the classifieds and business listings like Vconnect and Dealfish. The Punch news website is still strong together with The nation which ranks high as a news site on Google results.
Other sites that are doing pretty well are Linda Ikeji's which surprisingly has more ranking than Bellanaija for now, being in the same entertainment/social news niche.
So Newspapers > Forums > Classifieds> Social Blogs are in vogue now in Nigeria's cyberspace and they all mostly generate income from online advertising.
