Online shopping in on the decrease globally unlike in Nigeria, the reverse is the case. Now, more and more people are getting used to shopping online.

Nigeria is home to the largest population of people in Africa, highest number of internet and mobile phone users. Already home to global payment brands like Visa and Mastercard, has most of Africa's top banks with offices in the UK and the USA. Now more than ever, most South African countries are expanding to Nigeria but guess who is left out of the picture? Paypal! Yes, Paypal is not in Nigeria, at least not yet and they may never be unless they maybe see a need to do so in the near future.

Truth is, Paypal is expanding to many African countries but missing out on opportunities in money transfer services in Nigeria. Nigeria has already been a success story to telecom giants like MTN and also tv companies like DSTV and we are not forgetting western union money transfer services to Nigeria.

Mobile money has already arrived Nigeria and it's been promoted by the banks in partnership with telecom operators. There is a lot of money to be made by providers and partners of mobile money services.

Paypal doesn't seem to be too eager to enter into the Nigerian market for now else it would have done so already. I'm guessing however that they soon would if the something like global recession forces them to seek more profitable channels by opening up to emerging economies like Nigeria's.
