How cheap can you get a laptop in Nigeria? Now, that's a good question.
Nigeria is becoming one of the fastest growing ICT nations in the world and currently leads in Africa. This is probably not far from the growth in Telecommunication services and the fact that it has one of the largest youthful populations in Africa.

Nowadays, computer giants and global telecom firms want a stake in Nigeria because IT is new and a growing form of business for the young population. Now back to the question again - How cheap can you get a laptop in Nigeria? I guess a lot of people who want laptops like students want to buy cheap ones from as low as N10,000. Although that's a price that is far fetched but that doesn't mean you can't get it at that price. Most cheap laptops in Nigeria range between N15,000 to N40,000 but you can get some brand new ones as low as N5,000 or nothing if you get a credit deal from the dealers.

Where you can get laptop for cheap in Nigeria?
If you would like to have a laptop in Nigeria but not so keen about investing over $1000 at a go, there are several options available for you to do so such as:

1. Instalmental plan: Certain banks and laptop dealers offer this plan. It mostly comes as new laptops which are fairly priced but you only pay a small initial payment and then balance the others instalmentally or as agreed. It is a form of credit you can get for acquiring a laptop.

2. Refurbished laptops: These are laptops that are not brand new but have been serviced to be working as brand new. They are used laptops which might have had some parts replaced. They come cheaper than brand new ones

3. Peer exchange: This simply involved buying laptops from people in your social group for e.g school, work or community. It could be from a friend, brother or colleague who just wants to sell. These can come really cheaper because you are related in one way to the seller.

3. Classified ad websites in Nigeria: These are websites where sellers advertises to sell their products. Most people who may want to sell their laptops but don't have a store or retail shop would find it easier and cheaper to list them on local classified websites related to Nigeria and they ultimately tend to offer the cheapest prices too and most individuals who do so may not be too focused on making profits. You can try searching for keywords like "cheap laptop abuja" to get a listing of people who are offering their laptops for sale in your localilty. The main form of exchange for such listed products are

4. Local markets: Most local markets in Nigeria are priced based on negotiations but there really is always a minimum price. One thing to be careful about is buying a fake or sub standard one. Try buying only from sellers with verifiable shops and good reputation. You should also pre-test your laptop before making the purchase. Some laptops could come cheap but have systematic problems

5. Internet: By shopping online. If you have access to the internet and can arrange for a re-shipping service to Nigeria, you can really get it cheap for you. All you would need to do these are a credit card and an internet connection. There are a whole lot of laptop deals on the internet and you get access to them, just by shopping online and during their deal periods such as Christmas and so on. You can also make use of price comparison websites like shopping.google.com

6. Discount deals: From time to time, they are deals of promos in Nigeria that allow people to get laptops for cheaper than the normal prices. You can simply be at the right place, right time and with right funds to take advantage of such offers.

Considerations
The cheaper a laptop is, the lesser its quality really is. Some brands of laptops in Nigeria are much cheaper than others and same goes for countries that make them. The cheapest laptop in the world now is not really the $100 notebook pioneered by the OLPC programme but the HiVision NB0700($98) from China. Also most notebooks are much cheaper than full grown laptops but you should know that as laptops get cheaper, it seems that they tend to perform less functions than the expensive or special ones.
Cheaper and older laptops may get the work done easily and would probably be recommended for low pc users but if you are a frequent pc user, best is to go for
Lifespan: Cheaper laptops tend not to last as long as the expensive ones. Some can last for 6 months or a year before developing a fault or requiring service.

Battery problems: Cheaper laptops tend to come with cheaper or sub-standard batteries but that shouldn't be a problem if you don't use it on battery alone

"Refurbished laptops and computers usually give a good deal. If you want to save your money you should buy a refurbished computer. I myself bought a refurb from ""Electro Computer Warehouse"" a few years back, it's still going strong. Needed
it for reading emails and using word at uni and thought getting a refurbished laptop would be my cheapest option. You can also check here: www.electrocomputerwarehouse.com"

Everybody wants a great deal no matter what time of year it is. With Christmas slowly passing by there will be some awesome after Christmas deals to be had on refurbished laptops and desktops. Finding the right refurbished laptop or desktop for yourself is not a hard thing. Most sites offer customer reviews of each product they sell and market which allows previous buyers to give present buyers an idea of what they are buying. It is always helpful to read those reviews before you make your decision. You can check "ElectroComputerWarehouse" and I am sure you will find a good one for you..
