Nigerian gsm subscribers are to start enjoying the number portability service.

This is a free service that has recently being introduced into the country by the GSM networks in collaboration with the NCC and NCP(Number Portability Clearing House).

Number portability, as the name connotes, is one that allows a subscriber to literally move his number from one network to another with ease.

In this case, number portability allows a GSM subscriber to migrate from one gsm network to another without having to pay any fee or being restricted. However it does come with some rules.

The network you are transferring from it called the Donor while the network you are transferring to is called the Recipient.

All Nigerian subscribers would be able to migrate to another network from the launch date by sending a text message request to 3232 i.e. "PORT" to 3232 and the number would be migrated.

For a second time porter, i.e. someone who has already moved his number, he must first of all stay with his new network for at least 90 days before making another porting or migration. A subscriber may migrate as many times as possible within a year but the 90days limit remains after your first port.

Getting Started
In order to begin to use the service, a subscriber should first visit the Recipient network through any of their official outlets and request for an MNP(Mobile Number Portability) form. You will then be told to send the SMS request and you will receive a confirmation that your number has been ported or migrated.
