Google Adsense: Why do some websites earn more than others?

When it comes to making money online with Google adsense, at times it is not just about traffic but also about other little things that can change the whole picture.

I do use adsense on a couple of sites and channels have also being created for them, so it's quite easy to see how much each site contributes to your earnings and the number of page views they get.

If you've got a site that receives 1000 page views a day and another one that receives just 500 pages, you would be probably be confused when the one that has 500 page views generates more income from adsense than the one that has 1000 page views.

What I've noticed is that there are a couple of differences between the two sites which makes one to earn more than the other despite the traffic.

Visiting country
If most of your website visitors are from rich countries, chances are that your adsense income would also be much higher than if they were from poorer countries. Most adsense publishers prefer traffic from countries like USA, UK and Canada due to the high values they get from clicks. Google adwords advertisers tend to place higher bids for traffic from thee countries due to the rich economy. Don't be surprised to earn as much as $50 a click just because of a US visitor.

Website's keywords
The kinds of keywords or niche which your website is built with also matters. Sites related to business are probably going to earn more per click than the ones related to education. Sites related to insurance or medicine are probably going to earn more per click than sites
related to general discussion even with a relatively smaller traffic. So keywords matter a lot and that's why a niche website with about 40 pages of content may even earn more than a forum with over 1000 posts.

Ad placement
Where do you place the Google ads on your website. The location of your adsense ads is also an important fact and even Google has shown some hotspots for getting more income from adsense. Ads placed in the middle or top bar and close to the content tend to get more clicks than ones placed at the bottom. So you may need to move your code to a better position if you want to earn more from adsense.

Google adwords targeting
This is also a helpful factor as I've noticed. If you have a good site that already excited advertisers, chances are that they are going to place adverts on your website using Google adwords targeting. This is a systemt that allows adwords advertisers to directly target a website with their ads. The mroe advertisers you have that directly target your site, the higher the bid they'll place and the more money you make from clicks.
