I subscribed to Glo bolt pay as you use internet service after having loaded a recharge card worth just N100. I later got a message within a short while I got a message from 7078 saying:
"Dear Customer, browse the internet at 1000 times lower Pay as you go data rate of 5kobo/MB. Just use N100 worth of data today. Enjoy Glo unlimited"
I guess this is what they mean by Glo Bumper browsing plan and I had been seeing the adverts lately on some Nigerian daily newspapers.
Glo's bumper browsing promo is a special browsing package that allows internet subscribers on the Glo network to browse for as low as 5k per MB unlike the usual 5 kobo per kb if they simply spend at least N100 per day.
What this means is that if for instance one is on a Pay as You use internet service that has a normal rate of kobo per kb, you would be able to browse for as low as 5 kobo per MB. If I'm getting what Glo is saying, this practically means that you could spend as little as 5 kobo when you use as much as 1000 kilobytes.
So, after my N100 has been exhausted and disconnected, I got a message from Glo saying my account has been credited with 5MB. I'm not yet sure what this means or why they were giving me this credit.
I then loaded another airtime and subscribed to Glo instant surf plan - one that comes with a 19 MB package for N100. I also decided to track how much data I was going to use using Glo bolt's stats panel and it showed the following details:
b/f
daily uploaded data 7.3mb
daily downloaded data 41.82mb
After the Glo instant surf plan was exhausted, I also got a message from Glo and then checked my stats from the Glo bolt panel:
c/d
daily uploaded data 16.15mb
daily downloaded data 140.44mb
The details above means I was able to download a further 100MB from my subscription.
Now, If I did pass mathematics in my primary school and university, I'm sure this is not 5k per MB as I spent N100 to get around N100 and so it's about 100k per MB.
I'm not sure how Glo's bumper browsing works yet but if you are going to tell people that you are offering them 5k per MB, then you should make the conditions clear because the only condition I can see for now is that one has to spend just N100 to get 5kobo per MB.
I've checked Glo's website to see if they've published anything about this new browsing plan called Glo bumper but as of date, nothing is there. If you ask me, their adverts are a bit deceptive.
All I can say is that Glo does give extra browsing bonus each time you are on a browsing plan and spends more than N100 in any day. As for whether the bonus browsing comes at a rate of 5 kobo per MB, I am not sure about that.
Glo should try to be more honest and transparent in their ad campaigns because I've spent more than N500 on certain days but still not getting 5 kobo per MB.
