For most domain names we already know, there are a variety of US websites that allows one to check for the ownership information. This ownership information is normally stored in an online WHOis directory.

Personally, for me when I want to check a domain name like cnn.com, I just type the following in an address bar: http://who.is/whois/cnn.com

However, with the entry of Nigerian domain names bearing the extensions .com.ng or .net.ng, it is normally hard to check for this at the who.is website since they don't keep information on them as at the last time I checked.

I've been having a problem with checking for the available ownership information for a couple of Nigerian registered domain names and these are the ones that come with the extension .com.ng and .ng. Who owns that NG domain name may be the question a lot of people may want to ask.

Well, the Nigeria Computer Society have their own database for searching for the WHois information for any particular Nigerian website that is on the .ng or .com.ng and other similar domains.

You can also simply go to the url http://whois.nic.net.ng/whois.jsp and search for the whois information for any Nigerian domain name that has been registered with the .ng extension.

There are a growing number of such Nigerian branded domain names and I think this is a welcome development.
