If you are in Nigeria and using a Kindle device, you may notice that buying digital books from the Kindle store can be problematic since there are geographic and billing restrictions.
This blog post is to share with you on how I normally buy books from the Kindle store right here in Nigeria by overcoming these restrictions.
Things you need
===============
- A US credit card or prepaod VCC
- A US ip address
- A Kindle device
- A gift card
How to do it
===========
- First use your computer and visit your Amazon account and add a US credit/Debit card and the US address it comes with to your 1-click settings
- Buy an Amazon gift card with your Nigerian issued or US prepaid virtual credit card
- Change your IP address to a US ip
- Go to the Amazon store and select the book you want
- Click to buy it with 1-click
- Your gift card balance would be debited
- Book will be added to your cloud account
- Now open your Kindle, connect to the internet and go to Books > Cloud and select the book to download it to your device.
Once you've succeeded in buying kindle books from the store, you can always have access to it with your device from any location you are.
Some Explanations
=================
US Credit card: If you can get a US credit card, you can use it but if you are in Nigeria and can't get it, then you should go for the prepaid VCC that comes with a US billing address. There are a lot of people who sell it online and you can even buy it in Nigeria from sites like Graphcard. It normally comes with a US billing address so you'll just add it to your 1-click settings in your account together with the US address it comes with. A US credit/debit card eliminates the billing error people outside the US may face when trying to buy kindle books outside the USA.
US IP address: You'll also need to subscribe to an ip changing service. It's called a VPN service that you can pay for with your Nigerian credit card. You can go for monthly, quarterly or annual subscriptions. Once subscribed, you'll be given the VPN settings and then use in in creating a sort of dial up VPN connection that works with your existing internet connection. You'll just use it to change your ip anything you want to access services that are limited to US locations only. This eliminates the geographical error you may have been experiencing when trying to buy books from Nigeria.
The VPN settings normally include username, password and domain.
