Writing blog posts on Blogger
After setting up your blog, the next step in on actually creating content on it. You need to write blog posts that would be published on it so that people can read it. Like any article, a blog post has to have a subject, the body and conclusion. You can decide before hand how many words each blog post should have or you can just post as your mind moves you to.
Blog posts are important for any blog because it’s through it that people will become attracted to your blog. You should write about things that people identify with e.g. Fuel subsidy, celebrities, shopping, fashion or politics. If you write in a language they understand and they love to read your work, they’d become subscribers and keep coming back to you for more.
Writing blog posts on blogger is quite easy. You just have to stay logged into your blogger account first and compose a post. You can add words, pictures and videos to your blog post and it will be available to people on the web.
If you consider the way newspaper websites in Nigeria publish news, you would understand that they do this on a daily basis and can publish up to 20 news items per day. Linda Ikeji publishes blog post on a more constant basis and I’ve noticed that it can at times be up to 10 blog posts a day. Can you write at least 5 articles a day on your blog for 365 days in a year? Well, if you can, then you would soon be a popular blogger like Linda Ikeji because that’s how much work she puts in her blog. She has a very large audience who are hungry for blog posts and they love reading new items everyday. You’d need to be able to provide blog posts on a daily basis at least for your readers if you want to be a successful blogger like Linda.

How to write blog posts
- Log into your blogger account if you haven’t done so already
- Click on the tab that says New Post
- In the post editor, enter the title/subject of the post
- Enter the content in the text box also provided. You will have to write an article on that subject
- You can also add images, videos and hyperlinks when creating your post.
- After you are done with it, you will have to publish it to make it visible to your blog visitors

It is that easy! The more blog posts you write and publish, the more traffic your blog is likely to get since it will be attracting people from search engines and direct traffic.

How Linda Ikeji’s blog makes her money
I guess one of the things that attracted a lot of Nigerians to blogging is because of the stories they’ve heard about it being a fantastic platform for making money online. Some were also inspired by the fact that Linda Ikeji makes millions from blogging and so wanted to get into the business too. Some even went ahead to create blogs that look exactly like that of Linda Ikeji and so on. Well, it requires a lot of hardwork and dedication and it wasn’t easy for her to get started.

A visit to Linda Ikeji’s blog would inform you that her blog does have a lot of adverts on it and these are a variety of ways through which she makes money.
There are about 3 ways through which Linda Ikeji makes money from her blog and these are: Direct advert placements, Pay Per click adverts and Sponsored blog posts.

Direct advert placements: These have been reported to be her biggest money makers as she is reported to make the most money from top banners. She also accepts adverts on other parts of her blog which she places for a fee and for a pre-agreed time frame. Her direct advert sales probably make up to 80% of her monthly income from blogging. Her advertisers normally come from big companies like from the GSM industry, healthcare, insurance and even banking.

Pay per click adverts: She also makes use of pay per click adverts on her blog and this is a system that allows third party advertisers to advertise on her blog through the advertising network she has partnered with. Some of her top networks include Google and AdDynamo. She gets credited for every valid click on this ads.

Sponsored blog posts: Apart from making her frequent blog posts for fun or entertaining her audience, she also allows advertisers to post content on her blog for a fee and I heard that each sponsored blog post can at times rake in N50k about for her. Given the amount of traffic her blog gets, she is able to get paid for blogging on particular subjects that suits the interest of her advertisers who are mostly businesses that want to reach her audience. I think, if one has over 10,000 unique visitors daily on their blog, he/she should be able to charge about N10k per sponsored blog post.

Other things you should know
Linda Ikeji did not really go to any programming school that we are aware of or was she known to have learnt anything about designing blogs but she was able to make use of a free blogging platform provided by Google to make money. Funny thing is that a majority of her income doesn’t come directly from Google or other popular advertising networks but from direct indigenous Nigerian companies.

You don’t have to have a lot of computer skills just to make money from blogging in Nigeria. If you can at least compose and write articles or blog posts, you can easily set up your own free blog and start making money. If it’s a bit complex for you to get started, you can always go for training of just get an IT student to set it up for you.

Linda Ikeji was able to get popular because she mostly writes about stuff that people want to read about or were unable to speak out themselves. At times she publishes things that may be a bit too outrageous or scandalous but that are what Nigerians love to read. If you can keep your blog entertaining to your audience, chances are that you might also turn out to become a celebrity blogger like Linda already is.

I have just set up a blog on blogger spot also but I've not really started blogging. What disturbs me now is that some bloggers I've read online advise that one should go for a paid host instead of free one like blogspot.com. I seek your candid counsel. My blog is www.mdsule.blogspot.com

No need to go for a paid hosting when you are just starting and not making any money yet. Just blog for a while and by the time you write about 1000 blog posts that get good traffic, then you can start going professional by getting a domain name an web hosting. No need investing money into an online business that has not yet shown any signs of profitability yet.

Yes, you dont have to pay money. If it is a free blog hosted on blogger for instance, then no need to pay money.
