It is a good thing that Paypal is working in Nigeria although, for a start, it is just as a limited version that only takes way money from Nigeria for now. One thing we might have been asking was what Nigerians actually are doing with their Paypal accounts now that they have one officially.
I call it a limited version because Paypal Nigeria doesn't allow account holders to receive money yet but only spend money through the account user's bank debit/credit card which has been linked to their accounts.
Some Nigerians who use Paypal really wanted it to be a means for them to receive money online and be able to take advantage of online making money opportunities but sadly, Paypal disappointed them a bit. However, there are also other more financially comfortable Nigerians who just wanted to have access to Paypal so that they can make online payments securely and on a global scale and Paypal is helping them already.
I've also been doing a bit of investigation on Paypal usage in Nigeria and found out some answers which I'm going to share in this post.
What Nigerians now use Paypal Nigeria account for:
=================
1. To Shop online: Yes, there are many online shopping websites across the world which Nigerians have access to the internet but in the past couldn't shop on them. Now with their Paypal Nigeria account, they would be able to buy those items, whether Physical or digital goods and some of them even ship items directly to Nigeria.
2. Fund their Foreign Paypal accounts: Some Nigerians already had foreign Paypal accounts which had unlimited services meaning that they can both send and receive money online and which they are probably going to keep holding until Paypal Nigeria is fully opened up. They use their Paypal Nigeria account to fund those foreign accounts they've opened with a foreign IP and credit card in order to be able make and receive payments. Some websites don't accept ship to countries like Nigeria but would ship to only verified Paypal accounts in the USA or UK and so Nigerians prefer using their foreign Paypal accounts to shop at stores like that which block confirmed Nigerian addresses even if they were from Paypal.
3. Pay for online services: Nigerians also use their Paypal Nigeria account to pay for online services they want to subscribe to. For instance, they could pay for Internet TV, membership subscriptions, University application fees, domain names, web hosting, freelance work and so on using their Paypal Nigeria account.
