Buying things on Amazon.com from outside the USA as an international shopper can be costlier unlike for the person buying from a local shopping website within his country. This is because one would have to consider a lot of other costs besides just the cost of purchasing it from Amazon.
As an international buyer myself, I have to pay other fees to get my goods finally delivered to me in Nigeria. One of the additional costs I have to pay is the international shipping cost, a second is custom duties while a third but negligible cost is the cost of getting a US agent to re-ship it to you after they receive it at Amazon. Yes, most international shoppers who buy things on Amazon tend to make use of a US mail forwarding service or shipping company. This is because Amazon.com doesn't offer global shipping to many countries outside the USA unlike how Alibaba or Aliexpress, MiniIntheBox does. However, that doesn't mean that Amazon doesn't accept Visa or MasterCard issued from non-USA countries but rather they don't ship most of their good stuff outside the USA.
Getting a US mail forwarding company or agent is mostly necessary for non resident US buyers most especially from countries in Africa but many people there are still in love with American products and would want to buy a lot of stuff from these online company. That however means that they would have to spend more than a US based customer to get items they want from Amazon.
How can they save money while doing their online shopping at Amazon? Well, I'm going to mention some ways they can do this as it would really help them spend less money for more.
Ways to save money when shopping on Amazon from outside the USA1.
Reduce shipping cost by buying items in bulk:
Since shipping costs charged by US shipping companies tend to be higher per unit for small items than for large items, it's normally better to buy items in bulk rather than small units. So, if they were going to buy clothes, it's probably better they buy enough to refill their wardrobe rather than buying single shirts or trousers. The Shipping cost for 1 kg of clothes for instance might cost about $50 to be shipped to an African country but might cost just $250 for 10 kg thereby reducing the cost per kg to just $25. So, if you were going to just spend $200 or so on Amazon as an international shopper, it might cost you more to ship that if you just spent $1000. You could use Amazon's wish list to gradually build your list of items and by the time they've accumulated to a reasonable value, then you can buy them altogether.
2.
Buy Daily deals: Amazon normally offers Golden box deals on a daily basis and these are for products that come at a discounted value which is lower than the initially listed price. You should first check if the items you want to buy are listed in the offers made there and you should just take advantage of it.
3.
Take advantage of Amazon's free US shipping: There are lots of products that are listed on Amazon that come with free shipping offers to US addresses. Accepting to buy things with Amazon's free shipping platform might mean having to wait a bit longer to get your package. If you are not in a hurry or need the stuff urgently, you could save some bucks by selecting the free shipping option when checking out with your products. The items would be shipped to your US address within a few days but without any local shipping costs attached to it. If you rather intend to get it faster, you would have to pay an additional fee for shipping.
4.
Take advantage of Seasonal promos: Yes, times like Christmas, Easter, Cyber Monday, Black Friday, Halloween, Independence day and all those special days of the year normally comes with some goodies from Amazon. Those are the best times to shop on Amazon as they normally offer a lot of discounts and incentives to customers who patronize within those periods. It would help you save money on your purchase cost.
5.
Buy items that attract little or no import duties: Some items imported into your country might come with high custom duties while some are totally free. You could save money by only buying those things that are not heavily dutiable in your country and the best way to find out is to check out the website for your Custom service.
What I live about shopping on Amazon is that sellers are mostly trustworthy and the products listed are mostly of good quality and are properly specified. Their English is equally good enough and you mostly get what you paid for with the exact features.
It can also be addictive to shop on Amazon because when you start buying things from them, you are less likely to stop doing so.
You can buy anything you want on Amazon even if you are outside the USA and you can follow the above tips to save money while ding your online shopping.
