One of the things Nigerians spend their money every month on is on electricity bills a.k.a. NEPA bills. It is necessary to pay NEPA/PHCN bills if one hopes to keep enjoying power supply from the electricity company now called PHCN(formerly NEPA).
It can be a bit convenient and time wasting for NEPA customers to visit NEPA offices just to pay their bills on a periodic basis as one would have to take transport, wait in line before being provided with an opportunity to pay their bills. Nowadays, more and more Nigerians are looking for alternative ways to pay this bill without all the inconveniences associated with doing so.
There are now options for Nigerians to pay their bills as NEPA have made for such provision using online platforms such as ATMs, PHCN supported websites, mobile money providers and internet banking.
Ways to pay for NEPA bills online:
==========
As at 2014, there are 4 platforms I know through which people can pay for their NEPA bills and these are online platforms:
1. ATMs
2. Internet banking portals
3. Quickteller website
4. Mobile Money
How to pay using ATM
===========
- Visit any ATM close to you
- Enter your card and card PIN
- Choose Quickteller
- Choose to pay bills
- Enter payment code as 10402
- Enter your meter number when required
- Continue the process to completion
- The meter tokens will be sent to your phone and you can use it to reload your PHCN prepaid meter
How to pay using internet banking
===========
This works if only you already have access to your bank account using internet banking.
- Just log into your bank's internet banking account
- Choose to pay bills
- Choose utility and then PHCN bills
- Enter your meter number
- Enter any other codes required
- Your account will be debited and you will receive an SMS containing the token for reloading your PHCN meter
Using the Quickteller website
============
Quickteller's website is the best and easiest place I know so far for paying your NEPA bills as it's a simple website to use.
For First time users:
- Go to an ATM with your debit card
- Slot it in and enter your PIN
- Choose Quickteller and choose to pay bills
- Select Others
- Enter 322222 as the payment code
- Enter your phone number as customer reference and proceed
- Confirm you want to make the payment of N1
- Pay the amount
Your debit card will now be activated for quickteller use
For subsequent users:
- Go to quickteller.com
- Register if it's your first time
- Log into your account
- Go to PHCN payment page
- Enter your meter number and phone number
- Enter the amount you want to pay
- Confirm the bill including any service charges
- You will receive a confirmatory token on your phone
- Enter the token on the Quickteller website
- Payment is confirmed and you'd receive an SMS reply.
It is really easy to pay for your NEPA bills online and I think Quickteller's website which works on both mobile and desktop is the best platform. The second easiest platform for paying one's bill is the ATM.
The 2 main things you'll need to pay your NEPA bills online are your meter number and your debit card.

This is still not a complete solution as some are left out. We can not be doing trial and error! Why can’t there be an option for Prepaid all zones? Why is it that the 4 options are:
PHCN Post-paid (All zones)
PHCN Postpaid (IBADAN ZONE)
PHCN Pre-paid (Eko Zones only)
PHCN Prepaid (ABUJA ZONE)
What option should those who use Pre-paid and are not in Eko or Abuja choose? Why can’t there be PHCN Prepaid (ALL zones)? Why?
