I recently moved my Fridge from one corner of the room to another and later switched it back on only to discover after a few days that it's no longer cooling. What really happened?

It's not always a smart thing to move your refrigerator around because it does have some delicate parts and chemicals that need to remain in a stable environment in order to keep working properly. Moving it about can hinder it from doing it's normal job which is to cool or refrigerate your food items.

This was a brand new portal one door silver coloured LG Refrigerator 131 which I bought from a local LG store and have not used it for up to a year and so I was a bit worried that this fridge has kicked the bucket or that it's compressor had died.

If you don't want to go through much problems with your fridge, one thing I would advise is that you should not form the habit pushing it around irrespective of what you are doing even when cleaning your home or office. If you feel you still need to move it around from time to time, then it's best you put a stable platform under it that also comes with rolling tyres so that it could be easily moved in a horizontal straight line so that it doesn't upset the refrigerant. I think that's what happened to mine that made it stop working temporarily.

So, about 2 days after I had moved my LG Refrigerator 131 to another corner of the room, I noticed that my fridge items were not cooling and that some water was coming out of the fridge. I opened the freezer door and touched the panel only to notice that it wasn't even cool. The fridge was on and everything seemed to be working except for the cooling. It then dawned on me that there was something wrong with the chemical or refrigerant in the compressor and it was probably as a result of the way I moved the fridge.

I had to do a bit of research online and then noticed that I did something wrong after reading a report that advised against "Switching your fridge on less than 24 hrs after moving it". I got to know that it's not really cool to switch back the refrigerator immediately after moving it since the movement normally causes some imbalance in the system that can be rectified after about 24hrs of rest.

So, after I had immediately plugged m fridge on and it didn't show any cooling effect after a day or 2, I had to switch it off and let it rest till after 24 hrs before putting it on back again and thank God it started working again.

So, the trick is to let it rest for up to a day and then switch it back on. If it still is not working, you can call a fridge technician to look into it. Don't always be in a hurry to call those fridge repairers in Nigeria because the first thing they'll most likely tell you is that the compressor is bad even though it's a new one.

So, when next your fridge no longer works after moving it, just switch it off first for a day and put it on afterwards. It's better not to even switch it on immediately after moving it in the first place.
